Conversation about Jazz.

2005
Size: 54" x 60"

This quilt is in the permanent collection of the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, MA.
I was inspired to make this after talking with my friend Michael Adkins who is a jazz musician. I chose to depict the audience of jazz.
He states:
“Jazz is just a representation of something else, something larger than what we normally experience everyday and or a way to get at something that we feel deeper in our minds. When you have a great performer playing you have the potential, especially with the improvising element involved, for exhilarating and extremely powerful moments. It becomes a group experience, as if in anticipation the audience is playing the event through the artists”
